“Chapter One and a Half — Witness” presents Sartaq’s viewpoint of the beheading and immediate aftermath. It should answer some of the mysteries of why things did, and did not, happen.
After that, Chapters Two and Three are the same, the flashback to the events that brought Spence to China.
In the coming weeks, there will be more chapters from Sartaq’s viewpoint that should make the storyline easier and more exciting to follow. You’ll see Sartaq’s evil plans, plottings and manipulations first hand through his own eyes. And you’ll be privy to his thoughts and rationalizations, as warped and demented as they are. There’s also more detail about his upbringing that may help to understand, but not excuse, his criminal actions.
But before then, Spence has to be lulled back into thinking himself safe.
Little does he know!
