Postings have slowed because 1) I’m tired in the evenings and 2) things that seemed different at first are starting to feel kind’a normal.

But yesterday’s midday rain was decidedly heavy. This pic, snapped on a friend’s iPhone and emailed, will give you a small idea.

Throughout the day the storm gained strength and, by the time class was over, it had turned into a big-time window rattler and tree branch knocker-off’er. Power was out in most of the neighborhoods we had to drive through to get back to the hotel and the usual ten minute drive took more than an hour. The hotel had lost power for a few minutes and someone was stuck in an elevator for about fifteen minutes. (I’m sure glad it wasn’t me!)

I’m guessing the Brazilian song, “Aquas de Marco” (Waters of March), is about this time of year. Clouds and daily rain are common for several hot and steamy months through the south-of-the-equator summer but March is pretty much the last of them. Perhaps the lyrics are saying that everyone is ready for the end of the summer heat?

In the chorus of this otherwise difficult to memorize song, it repeats:

"And the riverbank talks
of the waters of March,
It's the end of all strain,
It's the joy in your heart."
