The movie “Arrival” (2016), in spite of its sometimes slow progress, has intrigued me for some time. After watching my BlueRay copy for the n’th time, I did some digging and came up with both the original story and also the screenplay.
Reading (and watching) all three versions, it is amazing how different they are. The movie director, Denis Villeneuve, took considerable liberties with the screenplay, and the screenplay’s author, Eric Heisserer, did the same with Ted Chiang’s original story.
This revisionism is commonplace in the movie and television industries.
If you’d like to “follow along at home,” here are the links.
